Public transportation goes past the unit to the train station (about 2 miles away). The train station goes directly to San Francisco (North) or Palo Alto, San Jose etc. (South). The Palo Alto station connects with transportation into Stanford. Bikes are allowed on the train so a person could ride a bike to the San Carlos train station and then bike to the Stanford campus. The train also connects to Bay Area Rapid Transit and the San Francisco Airport. Despite the good connections, a car would be the preferred method of transportation for the Bay Area. San Carlos also has a light industrial area with large hardware store (Home Depot), Grocery Stores (Lucky’s), Office Supply (Office Depot), Outdoor (REI). Larger shopping centers are in San Mateo and Palo Alto.
